Wates has acquired Liberty, a social housing property services provider

Wates, the UK’s leading privately-owned development, construction and property services company, has acquired property services business Liberty from social housing provider, ForHousing.

ForHousing is a social housing provider that owns and manages over 24,000 homes across North West England. Liberty is a specialist in social housing property repair and maintenance, with a strong focus on heating and compliance and will be joining the well-established Wates Property Services business. Liberty is headquartered in Knowsley, Merseyside and employs approximately 1,100 staff across the North West, North East, and South West of England.

Wates’ acquisition expands its existing property repair and maintenance services and extends its skillset into heating and compliance. Liberty also has experience in social housing decarbonisation, delivered via its subsidiary ‘Net Zero Collective’, which will enhance Wates’ existing domestic property renewable energy offering, particularly in the wake of the Government’s recent announcement of Social Housing Fund Wave 3.

PMSI provided VCDD to support the transaction, addressing critical investment themes including: the market opportunity for retrofit and decarbonisation within the social housing sector; the size and growth of the social housing property compliance, heating, and repair and maintenance markets; as well as an assessment of Liberty’s competitive positioning.
